Cupcake Camp LONDON!

What are you doing this Halloween? My friend, Daisy, a hop, skip and a jump across the pond, is gearing up to host London's very first Cupcake Camp and I say tally-ho, away we go......

It is the phenomenon that has taken Paris, New York and Sydney by storm: Cupcake Camp London, London's first cupcake extravaganza, hits town on Sunday, 31st October, 2010!

Hosted at Camden's stylish Proud Galleries, Cupcake Camp London will be a mass-gathering of people who love to indulge in the darling of the baking world - the cupcake. Supported by live bands, competitions, prizes, a Create-Your-Own Cupcake Art room and American-style frosting shots; the focus of the day will be the delicious cupcakes donated by England's wonderful baking community, including major cupcake companies, Primrose Bakery, Ella’s Bakehouse, Crumbs & Doilies and Buttercup Cake Shop. Whether you're a professional cake baker, an enthusiastic amateur, or just someone with a sweet tooth, this event is for you.

Organiser Daisy Coole said: "Bakers are encouraged to bring along their best creations to be judged by a fabulous panel, including the lovely ladies of Primrose Bakery, Martha Swift and Lisa Thomas and vegan goddess Ms. Cupcake. "We also need lots of non-bakers to drop into the event and raise money by eating the best cupcakes our capital city has to offer."

Cupcake Camps have ballooned in popularity since their creation two years ago as a tasty way to raise cash for charity. They have taken place in over 50 cities, attracting anywhere from 250 to 1,000 participants and raise thousands of pounds for good causes.

London's first ever Cupcake Camp will raise money for the North London Hospice, spurred by Daisy's own experience with the 'fantastic community-centered charity'. Daisy, full-time musician and sometime baker, lost her father, Fleet Street journalist, Bob Coole to kidney failure earlier this year. She said: "A serious addiction to baking cupcakes and my connection with the North London Hospice came into my life at the same time. Dad was a patient at the hospice and the nurses were simply amazing. They were caring and supportive to my Dad and my family, offering cups of tea and a shoulder to cry on as we sat with him for up to 24 hours a day. After Dad died, baking was a huge comfort and the physicality of it was very theraputic so I went on a baking frenzy.

"When Dad died I never got to say thank you to our nurses. This is my way."

About the North London Hospice:
The North London Hospice needs at least 16,000 a day to run and has to raise as much as 80 per cent of its budget through donations. It provides in-patient and home-based palliative care, counselling services, respite care and a day activity centre, all of which is completely free of charge.

Cupcake Camp London is sponsored by Ms. Cupcake, Mychelle’s Baketique, Candy Pulse, Caked, Bake Me Happy, Made With Pink and An American Cupcake In London.

Cupcake donors include: Primrose Bakery, Ella’s Bakehouse, Crumbs & Doilies, Buttercup Cake Shop, Bake-a-boo and Clare Ptak of Violet Cakes.

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Lost in Cheeseland

Lindsey is a Philadelphia transplant in Paris, married to a Frenchman and a lover of baked goods. She is also the creator of Lost In Cheeseland, Musings on Food, Love, Life & Struggles in Paris, a travel-expat blog hybrid. Growing up her baking consisted mainly of taking Sara Lee's and Betsy Crocker's mixes and throwing them into the oven. Not very inventive. It wasn't until she moved to Paris that she started dabbling in the kitchen and found that she had more talent than she had imagined. She may not have a steady hand to pipe icing the way Little Miss Cupcake does (thanks Lindsey!), but she makes a mean zucchini bread! With Cupcake Camp she hopes to add cupcakes to her list of baking successes. She is honored to have been asked to be a celebrity judge and is looking forward to seeing (and tasting) some 1500 creations!

You can see what she plans on baking here! Don't those look delicious?! Yum!

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Sophie

Sophie is 10-1/2 years old. She will be competing as one of our bakers under 16. Two of her favorite things in life are eating and baking. She's also passionate about animals and would like to be a veterinarian (or chef or hairdresser) one day. When she thinks about the earthquake in Haiti, she worries about all the animals.

Here she's baking up a batch of cupcakes to bring to Cupcake Camp tomorrow. No help from mom this time. When she realized that one stick of butter in France is twice the amount of one stick of butter called for in the US recipe she used, she worried that she'd have to start over. But the result is a winner and she's named them: Orange-Vanilla Butter Bombs. Isn't she a cutie? Looking forward to trying those Orange-Vanilla Butter Bombs!

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Mary

Mary wrote to us: "Ever since study abroad in France all those years ago, I couldn’t wait to get back! It took some convincing but my boss finally agreed that Paris was the right place to head up our international expansion efforts, and in 2006, it finally happened: I started calling Paris home. Soon I became a proud apartment owner and now I'm all growns up! And no, Mom, I'm not moving back to the states this year…With all of Paris' quirks and special traditions and misspelled English menus and opportunities to observe (and practice) the art of seduction, I’m just getting started here! In addition to cupcakes, macarons and the things that diabetics should avoid, I am also obsessed with photos, Twitter, music festivals, books by David Sedaris, yoga, open air markets, and travel." After following you for some time on Twitter, I am certainly looking forward to meeting you, Mary!

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Cali Girl

Leesa writes us: "I'm a sunny So. Cali girl who has been baking since early childhood. Baking is one of my great passions in life. In fact, it's really an addiction, so I bake and give them away to anyone and everyone. This has helped me to make many friends all over France! Cupcakes are just one of the things I love to bake and it's something that everyone seems to L-O-V-E!"

I met Leesa online last year and it took us about 10 months of back and forth emails before we were finally able to get together! When we met, we decided to exchange cupcakes and I still think with great fondness of Leesa's Chocolate-Cherry Cupcakes -- so so good! I'm looking forward to seeing what Leesa brings us on the 4th but thank her in advance for agreeing to be our official Cupcake Camp Paris photographer! She is amazingly talented; you can check out some of her work on her blog. So if you see her making the rounds with her camera on Sunday, make sure to smile!

Our Sponsors/Nos Partenaires: parisian events

My name is Kim Petyt, and I’m an American wedding planner in Paris. I’ve been creating events for almost 10 years, both in the U.S. and in France, and am the Owner and Managing Director of a full-service wedding and event planning agency called parisian events. We cater to the English-speaking community in Paris - people who either live here on a long-term basis, or come to Paris just to celebrate their wedding or special event. Our specialty is combining traditional American elements with classic Parisian elegance.

When my husband and I decided to get married 10 years ago, we were living in San Francisco. I thought it would be fun and romantic to plan a destination wedding in France. Back then, there weren’t really any wedding planners in France, and so I ran into a lot of confusion, mis-communication and just general chaos as I tried to organize my overseas wedding. At the time, I was planning social and non-profit events in San Francisco, and I thought then that if I ever moved to Paris, I would start a business for other American “Brides In Need” like myself. It was something that I had always kept in mind, so after we moved here and the children were a little bit bigger, I did some research and felt that the need was still there, so I started parisian events five years ago.

parisian events isn't just weddings though! Kim offers full-range planning for all sorts of events from birthday parties to business conferences from baby showers to charity balls, parisian events specializes in fresh, stylish, “oh la la” events that keep guests talking for ages after! You can catch up with Kim and her observations on recent trends, discoveries, great party ideas and lots more on her blog parisian party.

Thank you Kim for your support of Cupcake Camp! And we look forward to giving away your wonderful gift basket of goodies for a perfect Paris party or picnic!

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: I Love Cupcakes

I Love Cupcakes est naît !

Car restons honnêtes, difficile de rivaliser contre la pâtisserie made in France !

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: iPhood.fr

Je m'appelle Floriana. Je suis italienne, débarquée à Paris en

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Mon Ami Vie

My name is Gillian. I am an American (originally from Kentucky) living in Paris with my French partner and son and I have been baking since I could stand at the kitchen cabinets. I have a love of all things Southern, as that is where my roots are. My grandmother taught me everything that I know about baking which she learned from her mother, so, there is a long tradition. I am a designer by trade and have an online shop which highlights my designs, Mon Ami Vie that include scarves, handbags, jewelry and housewares.

My partner is in the restaurant business and we are hoping to open an American restaurant in the next few years. I am so excited to spend my Fourth of July at the Cupcake Camp!

And we are looking forward to spending it with you and your Carrot Cake cupcakes! Thanks Gillian.

Meet the Bakers/Rencontrer les Patissiers: Joséphine
